Site creation stages

We are happy to share our knowledge and experience with you!

You have decided about creating site for your company. Before you are asked, answer to yourself – what site I am willing to get?

The most important points are:

1. Setup your aim

Imagine your site is already created. What information is placed on site? Which sections does site have? What impression does your site bring to the visitors? Is it similar to any other sites?

Do not be afraid to use wrong terms, just express your ideas in your own words.

Example:
Visitors should have feeling that site is professiona, provides reliable and stable service. Main information listed on the site will be company profile including its market advantages, contact information as well as product catalog. Visitors should be able to quickly find order form and points of contact.

Answer to yourself first – what is your company needs site for? Try to express the main aim site is going to achieve. Also remember that site cannot solve all problems.

Aim is to be as detailed as possible. Specify measurements for your aim.

Certain amount of visitors daily/monthly, certain sales volume, certain revenue are examples of detailed and measured aims.

2. Target audience description

It is of paramount importance to be aware of your customers and partners needs and expectations. Describe your target audience with simple words. Specify gender, age, social background, revenues, interests etc.

Describe your average target user.

Alex, 26. Engineer. Higher education, active Internet surfer, interested in social networks, likes traveling.

3. Understanding development process

Site creation is done by web agency, but you also need to take care of hosting for your site as well as domain name.

Site will be done by team consisting of:

Project manager is the person who leads project, coordinates details with you, spreads tasks in team, and controls timeframe. Never consider cutting down cost on technical specifications. Technical specification is the tool which is aimed at cutting down expenses in planning and development. Right after specs are negotiated and approved it is time for designer to start with design mockup(s).

After design approval coder implements static image into HTML code acceptable by browsers.

After templates are coded it is time for developer to run integration of visual and functional part. He creates system which allows updating site (content, images, products etc) on your own.

After all these steps are completed it is time to check site operation on local server for any issues and bugs. After careful testing site is uploaded and configured on production server.

Do not consider site done only for you, take in mind target audience.

You are welcome to ask questions during development about things you would like to be informed of, but be reasonable.

Never change aims during development. If aims need to be changed, it is better to stop development, analyze new aims and only then move on.

Site should be updated from time to time to be effective and to be present in search results in search engines.

Site creation is not site promotion. These processes are not the same. If you don’t get your site promoted, don’t expect sales boost within a couple of days.
